Quick Catch Up!

I know that it has been an epically long time since I last posted.  Some how time manages to find away to pass faster and faster and now we are already in December!

This post is mostly going to be pictures, as I think they give a better glimpse into what has been happening in my life.  I hope you enjoy!

The set of photographs displayed below are from Culture Night here in Copenhagen.  A friend of mine from high school ended up visiting Denmark for around a month and he was able to come and visit me and go along.  Culture Night is a one night event in Copenhagen where establishments such as museums, historical sites, parliament, and even the stock exchanged open their doors and allow people an inside look.

This is my friend Ian, and our Lego creation.  And if you didn't know Legos come from Denmark.  :)

Not only was I fortunate enough to see an old friend from high school, but also a friend of mine, Carol, from college came from Brest, France to visit over her fall Vacation!  Here are some photos from our walk around Copenhagen.

Halloween is slowly starting to become a trend here in Denmark

Behind Carol is the Planetarium along with the hotel my Dad stays in.  Also in a post soon to come (I hope) you will see that these lakes freeze over!!

This is at Ameliaborg and the guards were changing.
October was one of the most eventful months for me with all the visitors that I had.  So Ian was still in Denmark and he had a friend, Gordon, come visit.  The four of us made a day trip over to Sweden to the city of Malmö.  We had fun buying candy from the stores (much cheaper than found in Denmark).  We ended up finding a charming square where we enjoyed lunch.

I think that the chronological order of these may be incorrect.  But here are a few snap shots from the outside of Christiania. Christiania is a free peoples place to live.  It is very hippie.  We enjoyed walking around there, but there was not a ton open as it was only 11:00.

Ssshhhhh. Don't tell but these photos are in Christiania by the little lake.

Carol and I had one last dinner together before she returned to France.  She was so sweet and went out and purchased some Danish treats for us :)

I took a trip out to the city, Slagelse, that Ian was staying in-and from there we made a day trip out to Møns Klint.  It was dusk by the time that we go there so the sky looked absolutely gorgeous.  And though Denmark is considered to be pretty flat (especially come from the great NW) you do in fact see beautiful cliffs!

Normally you would be able to walk along the beach but the tide had already come up and so the steps lead right down into the ocean!

After all the lovely adventures with friends from back home the snow started up.  Ok it was actually quite a bit after everyone returned to their respective countries but still the snow came and hasn't ever really left, making the Christmas season all the more wonderful.

The first day it started.  This is at Malov where I work (needless to say I am very glad that I work inside!)

Many a bike have had a similar fate as this one here.

I almost always have my earbuds in as I make my daily commute.  It's always nice to have something to listen to as there are times when the trains don't always stick to their schedule (especially with the snow!)

This is a short video on my way home on the train.

It's amazing how clear they can keep the roads and the bike paths!

Being farther North, it is very dark when I get into work in the morning.

You may recall that I went to a company party with around 8,000 people.  Well in the very start of December we had our Function Party.  It was wonderful.  The theme of the party was Oktoberfest, so our department rallied together and made suspenders and the belt and we all fashioned our outfits with them.

The party consisted of traditional Danish Christmas lunch, along with Æbleskiver, Glogg, and of course beer, wine, and Schnapps.  There was even a man and woman that came and yodeled for us and sort of tried to teach us how.  Then there was lots of dancing and other fun.  I hope you enjoy the pictures!

The socks on a traditional lederhosen are not full attached which we all thought was very interesting.

The company gave us a Christmas present!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well the snow continued.  Here are a few more shots of the winter wonderland that I have been living in this Christmas season.

As all the snow has compiled the roads have been made less and less clear.  Biking in the snow has been a new experience for me, but I haven't slipped yet!

This is where I store my bike

Along all the streets they add these decorations during the Christmas holiday.
Some how the Christmas season seems much more hygge here in Denmark.  I think that part of it is that all Americans celebrate Thanksgiving as their main family holiday, but as Thanksgiving is not celebrated here Christmas becomes much more family orientated.

Even in the office we had holiday aspects started in November.  We had secrete santas and did something nice for the persons name that we drew.  It was very fun picking out little gifts and trying to hide them without being caught!  At the end of the month we purchased a gift for the person who had been doing such nice things for us.

Around the same time we all brought in one or two gifts.  Once everyone had brought in the gifts we hung them on a string and every day in December a person would get their name drawn.  If your name was drawn you got to choose one present to open.  I brought two presents and so my name was drawn at two different points.  I received some delicious Christmas tea and snebold (which are a little treat-marzipan in chocolate and a candy shell), and I also opened a Lego lunch box!  I love it because it will help me to remember my time here in Denmark not to mention the fact that Legos were a Danish invention which I believed I might have mentioned before :)

Well I hope that you have enjoyed the photos. I was thinking as a New Year's resolution to try and start posting more frequently but I honestly don't know if that is a realistic goal for me.  I will for certain get a post up in the month of January about my family's Christmas visit.

If anyone has questions about my life here please feel free to email them to me and I will try my very best to answer them!
